“Since 1988 our goal has been to help leaders, managers and executives create a high-performance environment so they can spend less time managing and motivating and more time growing and building their business and where people of every generation are fully engaged and operating at their highest capacity.” M.Schwartz

SpectraComm Coremap Reviews
My Core Map experience and coaching with Jill have been transformational. She took me on a journey of self-discovery that is astounding and helped me turn possibilities into reality.
Your facilitation of my Core Map has been such a gift. It has allowed me to explore uncharted areas of my personality gently and fully supported. I love my new skin! Thank you
Experiencing Core Map and coaching with Jill are not for the faint of heart. She will open up possibilities, challenge you, and encourage you to move in directions you never thought possible. I have accomplished more towards my dreams (including writing and publishing a book in two languages, hiking the Camino de Santiago in Spain, running the Chicago Marathon, climbing Mount Whitney, and earning my Masters degree) than ever I imagined.
Core Map has helped me find my way back to my default mode, that state of mind in which I can feel my true inner self pour out of me without having to use any energy. I now wake up in the morning looking forward to meeting a new day instead of spending time wondering who I might be and how I am going to present myself in front of others. It is as if I can use all that brainpower that went wasted to now be focused on the really important issues in my life, like family, friends, and my interests. I’m back!
While I have taken several well-known personality assessments, the Core Map portrayed my character in a way that made more sense to me and your in-depth review increased my understanding of the findings. Working with you, Jill, feels like a partnership that is advancing my business goals as well as my personal effectiveness. I appreciate your frankness and candor, and that you always ask for permission (a rare quality). The other aspect of your work I appreciate is your attention to consistency, staying on track, and setting goals that always build on prior sessions. I value your perspectives that come from your own successful careers…perspectives about people, business integrity, marketing and authenticity of purpose and values.
From the CoreMap profile, I was able to understand some very unproductive behaviors in ways that were entirely new to me. The “aha” moment came when I realized how I had begun to rely on old, ineffective behaviors as my primary way of approaching situations. Though I had felt this to be the case, I had never before been able to verbalize and understand it so clearly. I left our review session with both excitement and a renewed belief that other, more productive aspects of my personality were either accessible within me or in a latent state and capable of being developed.
I cannot stress enough the role of the profiler as well as the profile itself. Without the right profiler, the information is only information and nothing more. Marc took a personal, direct interest in my gaining benefits from this process. He worked with me to ensure that I understood the framework and that I knew what the next developmental steps could be if I so desired. His style is at once articulate, compassionate and authentic.
After my COREMAP feedback session I gained real insight to questions I had asked for several years. No other profile had given me the multi- dimensional views necessary to identify why I acted and reacted in specific circumstances.
With this knowledge I’ve been able to make some subtle changes in my behavior. From a personal standpoint, this new “self” knowledge is leading to greater satisfaction in relationships. To say the COREMAP is incredible…well, from my experience, it’s not an overstatement.
When I was first introduced to the CoreMap concepts, I was mildly skeptical about its value to me personally. I’d not only studied psychometrics in my psychological training, but I’d earned income for a time designing various kinds of educational and psychological assessments. I’d led dozens of seminars using various MBTI-related materials and conducted therapy groups with all the standard psychometric and self-report tests used as prompts or initiating self-discovery. My dissertation included the development of a career decision-making assessment, and I’d used many of the available vocational guidance tools in my career and corporate coaching. I didn’t expect to find anything much new or different in the assessment arena.
But, I found gold! The Entertainer in me had been kept waiting in the wings for too much time, for inadequate reasons. And not even three days after the interpretation session with Marc, I’d stepped up to the front of the training room and hit a home run with a program I’d only watched before.
I feel like I’ve come home. I’m recognizing parts of what I’m like, of who I am, of who I like to engage with the world, as if they were long lost friends! In psychological terms, I’d call it a significant reintegration of ego-synchronicity, but what it really feels like is … I got my groove back.
I have taken the DISC and MBTI assessments and have studied the MBTI in substantial detail, and thought I had a pretty firm grasp on my core temperament and preferences. However, when you facilitated the CoreMap instrument with me, I saw a part of me that had been repressed throughout my childhood, schooling and work career. You worked with me to see how my “Entertainer” aspect could become central to my functioning. And, as I engaged with this notion, I was suddenly overwhelmed with sadness that I had been missing this in myself for so long, and relief and joy that I could claim it for myself. I felt for the first time that I had permission to be my true self. The Core Map, and the insights I gained through your facilitation, have opened up whole new possibilities for my life. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
When Marc convinced me to complete a COREMAP assessment, I assumed it would be a very similar management profiling technique to many I have undergone over the course of my career. I was wrong! The assessment provided me with unique insights into what I desired from my career and highlighted conflicts between my needs and the path I had been pursuing for many years. I strongly recommend this process for anyone wishing to have a better understanding of themselves, but particularly to those making significant career decisions. It helped me jettison the baggage and zero in on the career choices that will be personally fulfilling and have the highest likelihood of success. And I mean every word of it.
Unlike other personality tests I’ve taken in the past, CORE MAP gave me a more complete picture of how I saw myself v. how I really am. Seeing where those areas aligned was very powerful, and has helped confirm some gut feelings I had about where I want to head, and where I want to make some changes. My assessment is that it was a much more complete valuation of all parts of the person tested. I’d recommend it highly.
I have worked with countless instruments that provide information about an individual based on their responses to a series of questions. I even completed my doctorate on one. I found this profile to be amazingly accurate and on-point for me. I heartily recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about themselves or wants to address long-standing issues that may be getting in the way of their personal effectiveness.
The CORE MAP and the follow-up coaching was “just what the Dr. ordered”. It was extraordinarily insightful and effective in validating my potential and discovering insights into my passion and motivation. Seeing the depth of this assessment, I realize that other assessments don’t go far enough. CORE MAP not only revealed my strengths and abilities, it also raised my awareness of personal and professional liabilities and provided specific feedback that helped me get to the next level in my career.
SpectraComm Speaking and Training Reviews
The research and time you spent getting to know Pier 1 was invaluable. Your style created an atmosphere of fun as well as learning.
I am very grateful to your dedicated, personalized interest in developing the program for us. I believe that our numerous meetings in advance of the event ensured a most meaningful program.
We have now had the pleasure of working together several times and I found SpectraComm to be a company of the utmost professionalism.
Our managers found it interesting and educational that someone from outside the group, in such a short time, had the ability to learn so much and to see so much about each of the groups.
Again, we had an excellent experience as we learned more about our individual personalities and how we can work together with those who have different gifts to create a positive environment. It was a day very well spent by all who were involved. We are already seeing some positive results in our new organization and everyone is more optimistic about the days ahead.
All 34 members of our team have had good things to say about the experience. I have found myself referring back to a particular activity when talking through a problem with other team members.
I felt that the time with SpectraComm was very well spent. Each person certainly learned more about their fellow team members and I think a little bit about themselves.
Did a real good job…impressed with your ability to allow our team to resolve issues…no dead spots…processed each exercise, everyone was included.
I was thoroughly impressed with your presentations and the quality of the information presented. I can’t tell you how many people raved about the sessions you led.
I have heard nothing but positive feedback from our employees regarding the programs you presented.
Thank you for coordinating our team development program during our Regional Planning meeting. I must admit that several of our once skeptical managers were singing your praises at the conclusion of the event.
Marc has done numerous programs for our company. From keynote presentations at our National meeting to regional/local sales trainings, the principals and tools Marc has shared have been very impactful yet easy to employ.
For over 25 years we’ve had an annual Managers Meeting. Our meeting last year was an unmitigated success because Marc had well over one and half days of leadership curriculum to present. The outcome was extremely impacting, very insightful as well as uplifting. He kept my management team engaged and entertained throughout. We are ready to do this again.
Thank you so much for speaking on Generational Sales and Sales Management at our Annual Sale Managers Retreat. We had many V.P.’s in the room who run very large and profitable homebuilding companies. There we national builders represented as well as builders from across the country. They really enjoyed your session and it was the talk of the retreat.
I’ve had the pleasure of spending time in multiple workshops led by Marc and he hits a homerun every time
Marc Schwartz is a great facilitator and educator. He has a unique ability to really engage the room while ensuring the group takes away the key learnings. I’ve had the pleasure of spending time in multiple workshops led by Marc and he hits a homerun every time. In my role I work with several vendors and he is by far the best. I highly recommend working with Marc.
SpectraComm Coaching Reviews
I would like to say thank-you for the years of prodding (especially when you knew we were close to a “truth” that I didn’t want to admit), the thousands of questions that lead me to many realizations, and the ability to listen without judgment. I can’t really say whether you helped me more on a personal, or business level, but I know that they truly go hand-in-hand, so one without the other is of little value. I am very proud of my ability to make decisions with all the tools you helped me uncover, rather than the unhealthy place I came from before we initiated coaching sessions. In many ways, I feel as though I was an infant who, after many months of probing (at times squirming and fighting my way through difficult moments) eventually emerged as a happy, successful adult. Thank you for making the “real me” possible, Marc.
Marc provided a trusting, judgment free environment. During the RAMP session I completely surrendered my mind, my thoughts, and became completely vulnerable. I couldn’t believe the memories that came to light…I knew instantly that whatever work we were doing was helping me. HELPING ME work toward to successful a ME! I am looking forward to future sessions!
I’ve been working with Marc for a few years and he has had substantial impact on helping me to see areas I needed to focus on for true authenticity in my professional and personal life. He has an amazing gift of LISTENING and then coaching with positivism and compassion at a completely individual level, which for me, led to enlightenment and direction related to my next career choice. I recommend him to anyone needing neutral feedback geared specifically for them with zero agenda except to help you improve yourself – Marc will bring that and more.
Marc and I worked together on identifying and overcoming obstacles that were preventing me from living the life I wanted. During that time, Marc was not only professional in his methodology, but also highly attentive to what I said or implied and the work I was doing. He provided an environment where I could break down barriers, face vulnerabilities, build new skills and embrace new personal truths. Working with Marc was extremely effective and productive for me, and I recommend him highly.
In a world crowded with so many “experts”, it has indeed been refreshing to have had the privilege to work with you
I want to thank you for the countless benefits I received from your coaching during the past six months. You facilitated our coaching sessions with remarkable aplomb and always impressed me with your ability to help me arrive at answers to questions I had not initially even thought to ask. In a world crowded with so many “experts”, it has indeed been refreshing to have had the privilege to work with you.
I would categorize my work with SpectraComm last year as an unqualified success.
Marc was a highly effective executive coach for me during a period of significant transition in my professional life. Marc identified areas that would benefit from focus. He validated the results of baseline assessments and monitored my progress with a carefully-managed 360 feedback process, assessing my progress objectively over the course of our work together. The changes that I have effected in myself with Marc’s guidance have been remarked on positively by many. More than 2 years after completing my work with Marc, I can say that his coaching was effective and lasting.
Marc did a very good job of finding out what my values are, how I work and what my thought processes are before we ever went into how I could become a better leader. This was beneficial to me so that when we discussed an area for growth, he knew what my obstacles were going to be.
Marc, you helped me to clarify my professional goals by helping me understand my authentic self. Further you helped me recognize the obstacles between me and my goals, develop a plan to overcome the obstacles and move forward in my pursuit of success. Thank you for your tremendous investment in me. I am THANKFUL and changed. This work would have taken years if done on my own: Faster, Better, Easier!
SpectraComm Power Shift Book Reviews
An essential clarion call for leaders, managers
Wow, where has this book been? It is an essential clarion call for leaders, managers, and anyone at all who spends any time with people of another generation. In easily accessible language and concepts, it provides new, clear insights and practical ways to be most successful as an individual and at an organizational level and make the most of the future that is upon us.
Applying the book to my management style I was able to make dramatic improvements in the team
The team that I am responsible for managing ranges in age from 23-70. It is a dynamic environment that sometimes involves life and death issues. Prior to reading the Power Shift book and using the techniques in the book I thought my team was performing the best I could expect. After about three months and with some trial and error of applying the book to my management style I was able to make dramatic improvements in the team. We now have significantly less repeat training and have had no additional disciplinary action.

This amazing book is a must read for anyone interested in creating work environments that are solid, engaged and productive. Power Shift acts as a guide to navigating the waters between generations to return the focus of the workplace to productivity and goal achievement, personally and professionally. Thank you Marc Schwartz and Sherry Buffington for this careful study of millennials and the new rules of engagement.
Power Shift Will Make a Big Difference To ALL Leaders & Managers
Power Shift provided some very unique insights and strategies on how Baby Boomers have to shift their approach to leadership if they are going to stay relevant in business. The section on Structured Freedom was especially insightful in terms of where most organizational cultures need to evolve to in order to better tap into the energy and commitment of younger workers. A must read for those interested in taking their leadership skills and capabilities to the next level.
“Power Shift” is like having your own Executive Consultant / Coach in the office with you!
“Power Shift” is easy to understand and filled with solid research, interesting facts, great business stories, and guidance with the ‘whys’ behind how to effectively and permanently shift the exhausting reality of America’s disengaged young workforce. “Power Shift” is direct. A Book on the Leadership of Understanding
As a management consultant to many corporations, I see the impact of what happens when leadership does not understand the principles of leading a new generation. We live in extraordinary times when breakthrough ideas and innovation are absolutely essential. Sherry Buffington and Marc Schwartz in their book Power Shift have the essence of how to manage a diverse workforce in such rapidly changing times.
They demonstrate that a “Leadership of Understanding” and the tools that support it, is now the leadership model that will lead to inspiration and performance of each generation. The book is enriched by fascinating stories and complex ideas have been distilled into simple, easy-to-implement concepts, processes, and exercises. Power Shift is a must read for leaders of a diverse workforce and for traditional workers who are re-entering today’s organizations.

There are many books on leadership, personality styles and generational difference in the workplace. Finding one book that covers it all in a seamless fashon, supported by research and brought to life with engaging stories is a rare find. This book is that rare find. Sherry Buffington, Ph.D. and Marc Schwartz have a positve view (and an accurate one, in my opinion) of the newer generations, not just the “older” ones. They highlight the strengths, discuss the weaknessesof each generation and give excellent advice for influencing all generations to do their best work and to live their best lives.
The chapter on “Getting the Best From People” is worth the price of the entire book but you will want what’s in ther rest of the book. This book isn’t just for leaders and managers. It’s for anyone who wants to understand themselve and others better and who wants to understand human behavior and performance and how to influence self and others more effectively.

The team that I am responsible for managing range in age from 23-65. It is a dynamic environment that sometimes involves life and death issues. Prior to reading the Power Shift book and using the techniques in the book I thought my team was performing the best I could expect. I was using tools and ideas from management books and training I had received in the past and still had a team with a lot of disciplinary and training issues. They often needed reminders and follow up and did not seem very happy or engaged. After about three months and with some trial and error of applying the book to my management style I was able to make dramatic improvements in the team. We now have significantly less repeat training and disciplinary action. Most importantly the team works to help each other, is happier, more productive, less stressed. In turn this also allows me as a manger to have less stress and I am able to successfully manage my team and exceed company goals.

Every leader needs to read Power Shift, a definitive book which provides a startling look at the way Millennials are shaping organizational change and the driving a dramatic shift in power few could have predicted fifteen years ago.
It explains how divergent Millennial values are affecting organizations, large and small, around the globe, and why employee engagement remains persistently low in spite of continual efforts to improve it.
Learn why traditional leadership models are not working and why it is critically important for leaders and managers to learn a more effective model now so they are able to motive Millennials, influence the direction in which power flows, and help shape the businesses of the future

Excellent how-to manual for leadership in the 21st century
With Power Shift, Dr. Sherry Buffington and Marc Schwartz have laid out an excellent how-to manual for leadership in the 21st century.
The book is positioned as a guide for leading the emerging Millennial generation, but it could just as easily have been written as a guide for leadership period. The authors go beyond mere advocacy and offer many practical insights and practices that you can implement right away. I am an executive coach with 25 years of experience, and still gained several insights I have already started using with my clients. The model for authentic leadership fits perfectly into the principles of Conscious Leadership which is one of the 4 key pillars of Conscious Capitalism. The “8 Myths of Leadership” are some of the most cogent arguments I have read for transforming the predominant hierarchical and directive style of management. I highly recommend this book!
Millennials are Changing the Way We Do Business
As an executive in the hospitality industry, I employ over 500 team members, many of them millennials, but also gen-x and baby-boomers. In a competitive staffing environment we strive to continue to improve and adapt our management, recruiting and compensation packages to appeal to and especially motivate and retain our diverse staff base. Power Shift is an intriguing “how-to” manual, giving us valuable (and relevant) insight into each “type” of team member. Understanding perception of leadership and environment from the point of view of a millennial compared to gen-x or baby-boomer was incredibly eye-opening. I truly enjoyed the book, especially the easy writing style (doesn’t read like a textbook), the case studies and the build-up to the final chapter on Systems for Success.
